2020 is a closing year for cinema and people have spent more time indoors than they used to. So now we need more actions than ever. Luckily, Netflix is a giant library of action movies that can spice up your day and night. Right now, there are plenty of best action movies on Netflix streaming. Let follow our list of the best action films that we collect to give you and your family some movie suggestions at the very last moments of 2020 right now.
The Old Guard
Runtime: 2h 5m
Director: Gina Prince-Bythewood
Among the best action movies on Netflix right now, The Old Guard was one of the most hyped Netflix releases of the year, and with good reason. The Old Guard is also on the list of best sci-fi movies on Netflix this year. The world got to see Charlize Theron bringing her badass energy to an action film yet again, in a Highlander-esque ensemble that really went for it with the gun battles. It was great, and it will be even greater if Netflix is able to get a sequel going, especially after that teasy post-credits scene.
Runtime: 2h 30m
Director: Christopher Nolan
With a rating of 7.6/10, this movie deserves to be voted as one of the best action movies on Netflix. Christopher Nolan’s Tenet was obviously going to make the list, and the action that happens in it is great. With that being said, I mentioned earlier that story isn’t always important when it comes to a likable action film and, in this case, the plot did seem to get in the way of some people’s enjoyment in the movie. For that reason, it’s definitely a Top 5 contender for the best action film of 2020, but I can’t in good conscience give it any higher than that.
Runtime: 1h 57m
Director: Sam Hargrave
The plot may be overheated macho garbage, but there’s an 11-minute centerpiece sequence in this Chris Hemsworth vehicle involving a higher body count than most entire franchises that action fans simply need to see to believe. And then see it again
Wonder Woman 1984
Runtime: 2h 35m
Director: Patty Jenkins
2020 was a downer year for film, but even one of the worst years on record managed to save its best or last. In Wonder Woman 1984, Gal Gadot is kicking ass, taking names, and reminding us along the way that movies are coming back in a big way in 2021, even if the future of theaters may still be up in the air. Even so, this one is definitely the newest on the list but without question, the best bang for your buck when it comes to superhero action.
Runtime: 2 hours
Director: Niki Caro
Even if 2020 wouldn’t have happened, it’s hard to believe Mulan wouldn’t have delivered some of the best martial arts fight scenes we’d see all year. It’s not often that Disney goes this hard on the action and, while in a normal year this film may have not made the list due to other offerings, I absolutely think it deserves a spot on the list of top action films of 2020- and now of the best action movies on Netflix. I could probably watch Liu Yifei kick objects at people all day, so it’s a good thing this movie gives us plenty of it.
Runtime: 1h 53m
If you’re in the mood for a great throwback 80s/90s sci-fi actioner, you cannot possibly go wrong with Total Recall. The film stars Arnold Schwarzenegger as a construction worker who suddenly finds himself thrust into the world of espionage involving a colony on Mars. It’s crazy and weird and funny and thrilling, and Schwarzenegger is perfectly cast.
Runtime: 1h 28m
Director: Jean-François Richet
Mel Gibson may be one of the most disliked movie stars in the world, but he’s actually given some intense, interesting performances since his fall from celebrity stardom, particularly in this Cannes-premiered 2016 thriller about a father whose estranged daughter gets caught up in a very dangerous situation. Gibson’s world-weariness suits him well for this part, and he does his best late-career work as an actor, showing he can still deliver when he wants to.
Den of Thieves
Runtime: 2h 28m
Director: Christian Gudegast
Is this Gerard Butler’s best movie? It’s right up there. Yes, we’ve all seen the story of corrupt L.A. cops a few too many times, but this underrated heist thriller pulses with dark energy thanks to its great cast that includes Butler, 50 Cent, Pablo Schreiber, and a star-making performance from O’Shea Jackson Jr. They’re even making a sequel.
The Hurricane Heist
Director: Rob Cohen
Hurricane Heist is not some codename. It is a literal description of what happens in this movie about a group of criminals trying to rob a branch of the U.S. Treasury during a category five hurricane. Is that the perfect premise for a crime movie? Yes it is. Maggie Grace plays a Federal agent trying to stop them, and Toby Kebbell is a meteorologist who teams up with her to help.
Bad Boys For Life
Director: Bilall Fallah, Adil El Arbi
It took damn near two decades for Bad Boys to get another movie, but it finally happened and was well worth the wait. The action was top-notch, the tension between Mike and Marcus was a nice touch and overall, it was like the franchise hadn’t lost a step in its time away. I guess if there’s one complaint I can lodge, it’s that I didn’t like the main song from the soundtrack nearly as much as “Shake Ya Tailfeather.” But hey, not everything is perfect.
